The importance of a planning system and how it builds momentum in your daily life.
It can keep you moving forward on days you don’t feel like you’re accomplishing anything.

A PLANNING SYSTEM
If you’re new to planning or don’t routinely use a planner, having a system in place for planning can dramatically enhance your daily life. Systems are important because we are all constantly bombarded with information, with schedules, with events, times, places, etc. It can feel impossible to keep up with what’s important and sort through all the noise of life. Not to mention, also trying to keep up with our own personal lives and make time for things that matter to us as individuals. A planning system allows us to sort through this information and be intentional with how we are using our most valuable asset – time.
Being more intentional about using our time can mean that we make time for those things that matter most to us. These might be the things that constantly get put on the back-burner or fall through the cracks. Having a system where you can keep track of the demands of your daily life also frees up your mental load and can give you more energy for personal projects.
Here’s a few different ways that a planning system has enhanced my life, and can do the same for you.
FORM ROUTINES
Using a planner on a regular basis can help build positive routines. It helps me group or batch tasks to accomplish them more efficiently and effectively. It also helps me see patterns over time of how long certain tasks take, so that I can plan ahead for them in the future. You can track your habits to hold yourself accountable to work towards your goals. This could be daily exercise, reading, working on personal projects, eating nutritious foods, whatever you want to improve on.
Without logging your activities, you have no record of your tasks or a way to keep track of things to form new habits. It can also help you see patterns of habits that aren’t serving you so that you can work to change those. It can also help you see patterns of free time in your schedule where you can prioritize other things. Want a build a website (for example)? Using a planner can help you find windows of time in your day that you can prioritize building your website.

If you need help setting goals, tracking them, and evaluating your progress, check out the Goal-Getter guide [shown above] in my shop. This guide is available in US Letter, A5, Mini HP, FCC, and Personal. Choose the size that works best for you.

This guide is meant to be filled out, and referenced daily. You can come back to it, review it, update your action plan as needed, track your progress, and makes notes about what works for you and what doesn’t. You can add and remove notes / activities pages as needed. Use this guide year-long and you’ll be amazed at what you accomplish!
BUILD MOMENTUM
Using a planner can help you build momentum in your daily life. Let me explain – We all have ups and downs. We all have times when we are high-energy and motivated, and we all have times that we feel slow, drained, and need rest. Having a planning system helps you stay on track and connected with your daily life. It can keep you moving forward on days you don’t feel like you’re accomplishing anything. When you feel high energy, you can review your schedule and find time for completing extra tasks or doing something you enjoy. When you feel low energy, you can make note of things that have to be accomplished and reschedule the things that aren’t important.
The point is – using a planner builds momentum by allowing you to plan ahead, and keeps momentum by helping you move forward with your tasks. This is made possible by having systems and habits in place. If you build a planning system and implement positive habits, you will be more disciplined to work towards your goals, even on days you don’t feel like it.
MANAGE LIFE
A planner is like a life-manager. It helps me manage my time, my mental-load, my stress, my anxiety, gives me an outlet for creativity and journaling, and so much more.
Using a planner has helped me build self-confidence. Flipping back through the pages, seeing all the tasks I’ve accomplished, all the work I have done to better myself, helps me believe that with hard work anything is possible. It has helped me build trust with myself and my ability to meet deadlines and manage my time. I am very self-motivated and using a planner has only reinforced this. It helps me see my strengths and improves my weaknesses. It helps me live life with more intention, and it can certainly do the same for you.
Need planner inserts? Check out my shop to find an insert that works for you. I personally recommend the week-on-two-page layout. It’s my absolute favorite. I use it every single day. I love having space to make a daily to-do list, but also seeing my entire week on one spread.
