PLANNING DURING UNCERTAINTY

As my family and I have been experiencing some unforeseen and stressful times, I wanted to share a bit about what planning during uncertainty can look like and how it can help you take care of yourself during these stressful times of life.

It’s crucial that we remember to do the basics when taking care of others and ourselves.

HEALTH

Taking care of your health is so important. During times of uncertainty when we are having to look after others, it can be easy to forget to look after yourself. It’s crucial that we remember to do the basics when taking care of others and ourselves. Using a planner can help with this! You may think that since your schedule is ever-changing and uncertain right now that you don’t have any use for a planner. You can still use your planner to help you take care of yourself. 

Here are some ways to do that:

HYDRATION

Use your planner to track your water intake. This will help you stay hydrated and serve as a reminder to drink more water. 

NUTRITION

Use your planner as a food log and meal planner. You can prep your meals ahead of time to reduce your decision making and ensure you are eating nutritious meals. This will help prevent eating for convenience such as grabbing fast food. It is so important during times of stress that you fuel yourself. 

MOVEMENT

Movement is so important for your physical and mental well-being. During stressful times, it can be hard to stick with a workout routine. Try to get some movement each day, even if it’s just a walk or stretching. It will help boost endorphins and clear your head. Use your planner to keep track of your movement. 

SLEEP

Sleep is also crucial for recovery during stressful times. Use your planner to track your sleep. You can also use your planner to look ahead for the week and jot down times you may be able to nap. You can also use your planner to journal or dump all your thoughts before bed. This will help clear your mind and allow you to rest more easily. 

FUN

Use your planner to jot down something fun you hope to do that day / week. Although your schedule may be uncertain, you should still try to make time for something that fuels you and lights you up. No matter the circumstances, you deserve to find joy in your own life. Be sure to fill your cup, because if you don’t, it will be impossible to help others as well as you could. If you don’t look after yourself, you will get burned out. 

PLANNING

There are other ways you can use your planner during uncertain and stressful times to help keep you organized. 

Use your planner to prioritize your tasks. Jot down your top priority / priorities for the day. Focus on completing those tasks and nothing more, unless you have the energy for it. 

Jot down moments from the day that made you smile or brought you joy. Log what you are grateful for. In stressful times, it can be so helpful for your mental state to focus on the positive aspects of your life. It can help pull you out of negative thought spirals. 

CREATIVE OUTLET

As planners, many of us rely on our planners on a daily basis regardless of what our circumstances look like. During stressful times, use your planner as a creative outlet. It will help give you something fun and enjoyable to look forward to, since you will be using your planner anyways!
